About Flowers

I live on a mountain on the east coast and my lot is nothing but sandstone. There are areas where there may be a little dirt mixed in with the sand but nothing significant. I figure grass is out of the question but I still want some greenery besides the weeds we are managing to grow. Anybody know what will grow well in these conditions? (flowers, shrubs, decorative trees)

Please don’t say cactus!!! Wow, thank you to the first three people already. I’ll try every one of those suggestions!
