When given a bouquet of flowers, do you change the water everyday, or just add water to it?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009
Diane asked:

my new boyfriend is so sweet, he sends me flowers everyother week. I want to keep them in good condition, but its really tiring to change the vase water everyday, and sometimes i dont really have alot of time for that. However, I want them to last a long time and show him that I really appreciate them. What are some tips to keep bouquet flowers lasting?

Is there an environmentally friendly substitute for silk flowers?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009
Ecter asked:

Several loved ones are buried in distant cemeteries and I cannot go there to change out fresh flowers on their graves; yet silk flowers have to be thrown in landfills when they get old. These cemeteries do not allow flowers or shrubs to be planted, because it gets in the way of the lawnmowing.

Are there any alternatives?
No, unfortunately there are no built-in vases at each grave, so everything has to go either on a side vase, if the headstone has those, or on top of the headstone.

I had not thought of bird feeders; that is an idea.

How do you create unique photographic images of flowers?

Thursday, April 9th, 2009
I heart beets asked:

you know flowers are a common photographic subject, and i’ve seen some great images, and some bad ones, but what are the key characteristics of a great flower image?

I personally like macro shots of flowers with a less distracting background. But would like some different ideas.
Thanks so much.

what kind of flowers and plants should i get for my garden?

Thursday, April 9th, 2009
Sol M asked:

This is the situation, my neighbors from both sides hang their clothes in their backyard, which i think it looks very bad, specially when you have guest at home. I am planning to get plants to actually cover the entire view to my neighbors. Also i love flowers and want to get very colorful yet strong flowers that dont require much attention.
Forgot to mention that i live in miami, very humid and rains a lot. thanks :)

How should I care for my Dendrobium orchid after the flowers have faded?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
Philippe asked:

I have a nobile Dendrobium orchid that has flowers which are fading. There’s a tall stalk with nothing but flowers that grow from the sides of the stalk. The stalk has no leaves, only flowers. At the base are 2 small suckers with leaves. I am concerned about what to do with the main stalk after all the flowers are gone. It will be completely bare. Should I cut it or what. I would greatly appreciate any advice from someone with experience growing nobile Dendrobiums. Thank you.

What flowers can I plant in southern Germany?

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
funkymunkyninja asked:

I recently moved to southern Germany and I want to plant some flowers on my balcony porch thing. My only problem is that I don’t know what flowers I can grow in this climate at this time of year, nor can I find a website in English (since I don’t speak/read German enough to make any sense of it) that helps me out.

So, what can I grow where I live? I would prefer to plant flowers, but I can go for herbs and other things like that too.

Dan
